THE SCRUM FRAMEWORK IN A NUTSHELL

Taking into account lessons I've learned as well as my experience, I want to share something I was recently asked in a technical interview. The scrum framework is a method that helps people address complex adaptive problems, while delivering high-quality products.

This is the scrum framework in a nutshell.

What did you do yesterday?
What will you do today?
Are you facing any obstacles?

It all starts with the Product Owner, the person who builds the product backlog. In this picture, you can see this at the beginning. The product owner gathers the product information by talking to the stakeholders. Then, the product owner hands the product backlog over to the scrum master. The scrum master guides the sprint planning to get the sprint backlog. The sprint planning meeting is an artifact where the scrum master, product owner and developers are involved. There's a technique called estimation poker that produces the estimates of the user stories. Having said that, every user story delivered by the product owner will have a clear priority.

During the daily scrum, each team member answers the following three questions:

What did you do yesterday?

What will you do today?

Are you facing any obstacles?

This is a meeting only between the scrum master and the development team. This meeting delivers a product increment through a process called sprint review. These iterations are called sprints, finishing when all the user stories are completed and the complete product is released.

This framework is applied to the development software process, but it can be applied to any project, even to life itself.
